Handicapped Gets Loan to Start His Venture

This is a story of 21 year old Rana Ram, son of Deva Ram, a resident of village Bhainswada in Ahore block of Jalore district. He is orthopaedically handicapped because of polio during his childhood. His younger brother Mohan Lal is also affected with the same problem. Deva Ram is a small farmer with seven members in the family including three younger sisters. Agriculture is the only source of income of their family which is not sufficient for them.

Deva Ram came to know about MMBA's work for rehabilitation of the persons with disabilities. He came to the organisation's branch office and met Mukesh Kumar, who was looking after the disability issues in the Jalore district. Mukesh told him about the Vishwas Yojana through which loan can be availed from bank for income generation activities.

Rana Ram applied for loan in the bank to start computer education centre in July 2007, which was readily accepted by the cooperative bank of Ahore branch. He submitted all the necessary formalities regarding the loan, but even then the loan was not made available. He visited the bank 10-15 times on the call of the branch manager, but to no avail. This disturbed him a lot and he approached Marwar Vikalang Adhikar Manch, Jalore in September 2007. He met district collector and conveyed him about his problem. A public hearing was made on the issue in October 2007 in the presence of collector, SDM, PMO and the officers of the society welfare department. District collector promised him that loan will be sanctioned within next two days. Ultimately he got a loan of Rs 50,000 on October 17, 2007 to start his own centre.

At present Rana Ram is running computer education centre in his village and imparting computer training to the school children of his own village. Now he and his family are very happy.
